Another Declaration of Intention: Louis Jermulowske, Brother of Addie

The S.S. St Paul of 1904 Found: Place of Birth

Louis Jermulowske, brother of Addie Goldfoot nee Jermulowske, immigrated to the states at age 21. He was a whole foot taller than Addie, measuring 5'6" and weighing 160 lbs. While she had black hair, his was brown. He said he was born in Russia Poland, not giving a city or town or shtetl. He was born on December 20, 1883. He came a different route than Addie. He came through Liverpool, England on the S.S. St. Paul, and had been living in Leeds, England, for how long it didn't say. Like all Declarations of Intention, it said that it is my bona fide intention to renounce forever all allegiance and fidelity to any foreign prince, potentate, state, or sovereignty, and particularly to Nicholas II, Emperor of all the Russias, of whom I am now a subject.

He arrived in New York's port on or about the 10th of June, anno Domini 1904, the year after Addie had come over. I note that he declared earlier than Addie did. He applied on the 12th of February, 1912 at the Circuit Court in Multnomah County, Portland, Oregon at age 29. He swore that he was not an anarchist; not a polygamist nor a believer in the practice of polygamy; and it was his intention in good faith to become a citizen of the United States of America and to permanently reside therein: so Help Me God.
WWI Draft and Registration in 1918 said he was 34 years old, making birthdate: 1884.
WWII Draft and Registration in 1942 said he was 56 years old, making his birthdate 1886. According to the paper, he said he was born November 20, 1886 in Laada, Lithuania. This is the first time I've seen evidence that the Jermulowskes were from Lithuania and not just Poland or Russia. Most all Goldfoots were also from Lithuania though Nathan had just said Russia.
In 1942 Louis was living in Hotel Washington, Weiser, Washington, Idaho. His wife Dinah, maintained the Portland home at 2818 SW 1st Avenue. If he was like his nephew, Maurice Goldfoot, he would buy during the week in Idaho and then return to Portland on the weekends.
